The price of beer shot up this weekend with a pint going for $1.5 million up from $700 000. The new prices came barely a week after another increase which saw a pint going up from $250 00 a pint to $700 000. A quart of larger has gone up from $1.2 million to $3.2 million.
In night spots and hotels the beer should be over $5m.
With the way things are going it has been predicted that 2007 is going to have very sober Christmas unless the home made brews come onto the market. |

| NRZ COMMUTER FARES UP. |
|
Barely a week after the commuter omnibus operators increased their fairs from $300 000 to $500 000 the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) also decided to review their fares upwards. The commuter train fares have been increased from $40 000 to $80 000 per trip with effect from the 30th of November 2007.
Although the increase is still affordable when compared to that of commuter omnibuses, this move has been received with mixed feelings from the public. According to some Luveve residents this increase has placed them in between a rock and a hard place because the economic situation at the moment is really not on the people's side.
The issue of affordability has made the train the most popular mode of transport following the lack of co operation being displayed by the commuter omnibus operators. |

| HEALTH
HAZARD LOOMING IN OUR ALLEYS |
|
| The
city of Bulawayo was once the
cleanest in the country with
very little litter in the city
centre. A person could accidentally
drop a pie in the street and
actually pick it up again and
continue eating. However over
the years the city council has
relaxed on the once efficient
mantra, 'Keep Bulawayo Clean'...

CASH
SHORTAGES HIT THE COUNTRY |
The
Governor of the Reserve Bank
of Zimbabwe, Dr Gedion Gono,
has attributed the financial
pressures being felt in the
market to the seasonal increase
in the demand for cash. Dr
Gono however stated that the
central bank has adopted a
wait and see attitude with
regards to the cash shortages.
He stated
that the central bank would
take necessary steps to ensure
that there will be cash available
during the festive season
but in the interim, the banking
sector should play a supportive
role through the observance
of standing cash withdrawal
thresholds.
The
country has been experiencing
acute cash shortages in the
past three weeks with long
winding queues being the order
of the day at most banking
halls and automated teller
machines.

| NEW
CURRENCY COMING SOON |
|
New
notes will be issued in place
of the existing bearer cheques
in the second phase of the
currency reform program dubbed
Operation Sunrise II. The
actual date of the new currency
release was not given by the
Reserve Bank Governor, Dr
Gideon Gono, in an effort
to keep the illegal dealers
guessing.
The Reserve
Bank has already put in place
all the machinery to enable
the implementation of a short
and precise change over which
will be complete in a matter
of days as opposed to Operation
Sunrise I, which took a longer
time.
All
holders of excess cash have
been advised to deposit the
money immediately before it
turns to useless manure.
