Think big and grow rich!
by Xolani Mavolwane

All great business leaders, in fact all successful people agree that success begins in the mind. This article explores the state of the mind that is needed to be successful.

Truly, the mind is everything. In his famous book, Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill teaches us that often we do not succeed because of fear. He found that at the bottom of most worries are fears of poverty, criticism, ill health, old age and death. When we overcome them, our chances of success become infinitely greater.

When we are ruled by what is possible, rather than what may go wrong, the world opens up to us. A much quoted little rhyme describes this better
than anything you are likely to read anywhere. It goes like this -

If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don't,
If you like to win, but you don't think you can't,
It's almost certain you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost,
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a person's will -
It's all in the state of mind.

On the other hand, confidence and belief in yourself do not have to go hand-in-hand with arrogance. Self-belief is not boastful. People who are boastful or insist on being treated as if they are important are often described as having large egos. The opposite is true. Boastfulness is a desperate effort to reassure yourself that you do have some value. It is a sign of insecurity.

Belief in yourself and your future success is reflected in having a real purpose in life and a quiet determination to achieve it. It will show itself in continuous action toward that goal and a mind closed tightly against fear and distraction.

We all can be successful, but we cannot be successful in Bulawayo or anywhere else in the world until we believe that we can and translate that belief into action. Think of your past successes - and you have had many - think of what you do best and go for it.

Believe it. You can be very, very, very successful!
