Natural History Museum
Located in the Centenary Park along Leopold Takawira Avenue, the Natural History Museum is reputed as one of the finest museums in Africa. Officially opened in 1964, the Museum contains some superb and unique displays illustrating the cultural and traditional history, mineral wealth and wildlife of Zimbabwe, including the second largest mounted elephant in the world.

National Art Gallery
The Gallery is an attraction of great interest, it is housed in a Victorian Style complex which also houses a crafts shop, cafe and several studios. It is located at Douslin House, Corner Main street and Leopold Takawira Avenue.

Amakhosi Cultural Centre
The Centre is the only one of its kind in Southern Africa. It is used as a venue for traditional dance, drama, music and film shows. The centre is also host to a number of local cultural groups who have put Zimbabwe on the international spotlight, through their international tours. The groups are reputed for their high quality performances.

Mzilikazi Arts and Craft Centre
This is a pottery and sculpture Centre with drawings and painting studios. Several of the City's well known artists had their training at the Mzilikazi Art and Craft Centre.

Mthwakazi Crafts Bulawayo
This is a Municipality undertaking. Mthwakazi Crafts produces and sells pottery, ceramic and stone sculptures, paintings, woven articles, batiks, bags, basketry, mohair wool jerseys and rugs, embroidery linens, duvets, cushions, crotchet work, glass bead work and beaded accessories and many other handcrafts.

Railway Museum
This museum is the only one of its kind in the world. It houses a collection of obsolete steam locomotives, rolling stock and station buildings. Its exhibits date back to as far as 1897.

Just Outside the City
   

Matobo National Park
The Matobo Hills, one of Zimbabwe's major attractions is 32km south of Bulawayo along the Kezi road. The Hills are an awe-inspiring panorama of spectacular granite kopjes – the most spectacular granite landscape in the Southern African region. It is believed to be the shrine of many African Gods, something that often shrouds the Hills in mystery.

King Mzilikazi is buried here, so is Cecil John Rhodes who chose to be buried on top of one huge whale back rock. Scattered within the hills lies the traditional villages of the local Ndebele people who still pay reverence to the sacred rain shrines of Matobo.The area contains over 2000 San (bushmen) paintings that adorn the walls of the silent caves. Some species of animals – Sable, Impala, Klipspringer, White Rhino, wildebeest and Zebra, and occasionally Leopard may be seen in the Matobo National Park.

Khami Ruins
An easy half-hour drive from the City lies the Khami Ruins, the former stronghold of the Torwa State that flourished in the 16th century. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ruins consist of a series of terraces and passages supported by massive granite walls, some overlooking Khami Dam and Khami Gorge. If you are yet to visit the Great Zimbabwe in Masvingo, the Khami ruins would be a worthwhile visit as part of an exhilarating experience in Zimbabwe.

Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage and Research Centre
Situated along the Bulawayo-Beitridge Road, 23km east of Bulawayo, Chipangali provides a home for orphaned, sick or abandoned wild animals. These are Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Black Rhino, many species of antelope and a large collection of birds.
The Orphanage is actually recognised as a breeding station for the Black Rhino.

Tshabalala Sanctuary
Located 10km from the City on the Matopos Road, Tshabalala Sanctuary celebrates a varied selection of animals, including Giraffe, Kudu, Zebra, Impala, Wildebeest and Tsesebe and many species of wild birds and waterfowl. Drive, cycle or horse ride along with the wildlife.

Old Bulawayo
Situated 20km from the City, is a centre of significant cultural importance. Old Bulawayo was the throne of the famous King Lobengula, son of Zulu warrior Mzilikazi who fled from the terror of Tshaka in the early 1800s. Lobengula established this as his capital in 1870 where he lived until 1881.

Mguza Nature Reserve
Located 15km on the Victoria Falls Road, the Mguza Nature Reserve has the most superb picnic spots, picturesque walks and fishing. There also is a large variety of wildlife and birds.

Mazwi Nature Reserve
Mazwi Nature Reserve is a municipality Recreational Park. Horses are available for hire, you can appreciate nature and do some game viewing on horse back.
